Now we start the beginning of that famous brass fanfare from John Williams' "Star Wars" theme. To me, this sounds like a musical dogfight! This is a tricky section, so we're going to start with the left hand alone first. We'll also learn a little more about faster and slower notes, as well as about those "qualifiers" that are otherwise known as key signatures.

The dogfight continues! We now take a look at the Right Hand alone for the beginning of the fanfare opening of John Williams' "Star Wars" theme. Along the way, we'll learn about the key signature for the right hand, how to skip letters to find notes faster, and the differences between notes with flags, beams, and bare stems.

Now feel the power of the force! ...well, at least the force of putting your hands together! At last, my dear Padawans, we start tackling the most challenging part of John Williams' "Star Wars" theme. "Do, or do not - there is no try!" according to Jedi Master Yoda. But the good news is that it's really not that hard to put your hands together when you break it down into small enough sections.

These next few lessons are going to be the most challenging, as we slowly continue to put both right and left hands together in the famous opening fanfare portion of John Williams' "Star Wars" theme. Watch out for the "dueling thumbs!" Remember that patience comes in small portions, and that by focusing a little at a time, you'll soon see yourself playing even the most difficult pieces of music! Note how we bridge a little of what we've already learned to a small portion of new music - that helps to build continuity in our musical learning process. Onward, dear Padawans!

Ack! Bad hair day! Never mind the bad 'do, let's continue on plugging away at this challenging fanfare opening from John Williams' "Star Wars" theme. By now, you can see my teaching pattern: cut small chunks of the music, isolate them and carefully put them together a little at a time. If you get frustrated, try not to worry about the whole piece yet, and just focus on the small things. As you build your musical 'bridges', the piece will come together faster and easier than you realize. Don't forget, you can always leave questions as comments and let me know if there's anything I can do to help make your learning of this terrific arrangement easier!
